At a media event this morning, Helsana looked back at the year 2024 and presented its forward-looking strategies. 2024 was a significant year for Helsana, as the company celebrated its 125th anniversary. This was not only recognised as a milestone, but also seen as a symbol of the company’s continuous success story.

The Helsana Group achieved an annual result of CHF 448 million and recorded an exceptionally positive development in the actuarial area. Particularly encouraging was the acquisition of 108,000 new policyholders in the basic insurance area, which is mainly due to a forward-looking premium policy. Helsana CFO Ronny Bächtold emphasised the importance of a stable cost situation, which had led to the 2025 premium increase being below the market average. In addition, the group’s combined ratio improved to 98.3 per cent.

Strategic direction 2025

Helsana’s new strategy is entitled ‘Covering health throughout life’ and is based on the company’s values and history. Five strategic goals define how Helsana intends to maintain and expand its market leadership in the healthcare sector:

  1. Remain the leading health insurer.
  2. Achieve a high level of customer satisfaction.
  3. Attract talented employees.
  4. Ensure sustainable corporate governance.
  5. Expansion of the core business through socially relevant topics and offers in the area of life insurance.

One central approach will be the realignment towards offers in the areas of mental health, longevity, fertility and pregnancy, independent living in old age and saving for healthcare. Roman Sonderegger, CEO of Helsana, explained that these topics are adapted to current social changes and needs.

Digitalisation and efficiency gains

Another focus of the strategy is digitalisation. Helsana plans to make processes more efficient for both its customers and in its collaboration with brokers. The CEO emphasised the importance of modernising existing systems and integrating innovative approaches in order to reduce the administrative burden and ensure that claims are processed quickly and in a customer-friendly manner.

Looking to the future

Helsana is confident that the strategic measures will yield positive results in the years to come. The combination of a solid core business and the development of new areas of business should not only increase customer loyalty, but also contribute to the company’s stability and growth.

Overall, Helsana’s media event represents an important step into the future, one that not only celebrates the company’s financial successes but also sets out a clear vision for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead.
